Description

Mel Santa Maria is produced in the Barroso region, more specifically in the municipality of Montalegre, in Trás-os-Montes since 1996 . This flowering is above 800 meters of altitude. This quality honey is awarded, bronze medal 2016, gold 2017 and silver in 2018, in the category of organic honey.

Only approved products are used for the production of our organic honey, They are controlled by the Certifying Portuguese entity. Actually, the whole herd is Mel Santa Maria organic production, the control of beehives, production methods, treatments carried out on bees are controlled by this authority.
Santa Maria Honey and Pollen are Portuguese produced products of excellence quality made for demanding Consumers who enjoy guaranteed and origin.
The big goal of Santa Maria Honey is to always produce high quality honey in a way that Consumers feel the Trás-os-Montes nature, in each jar of honey.


History
Mel Santa Maria took the first steps with the emergence of a swarm in the house of Quinta do Paranho in Santa Maria de Emeres, Chaves, in 1995. After entering a hive, the work of the swarm was followed weekly with many hours of observation.
The town grew to eleven hives.1996 was the first honey production, approximately 170 kg. The Honey adopted the same name of the village where it all began,  in the house of Quinta do Paranho in Santa Maria de Emeres in Valpaços., Trás-os-Montes Santa Maria Honey today has already a herd of about 1,000 hives, located in several areas of Tras-os-Montes.
Depending on location, the honey produced has different characteristics because they are different types of vegetation where the bees will collect pollen for the production of honey. Mel Santa Maria produces mono floral honey
