Description

Trás-os-Montes region is also famous for its cheeses, predominantly made with sheep or goat milk and that have unique, truly distinctive characteristics and delicious flavours.
The Terrincho has a mild, clean and very characteristic flavour - that becomes more intense in its “Old Terrincho” variation – has a semi soft and creamy consistence and a uniformly white colour. Maturation takes a minimum of 30 days and may extend up to a maximum of 90 days, passing to a different Terrincho variant designated as "old".

Both Terrincho and Transmontano Goat DOP cheeses are produced exclusively in Trás-os-Montes region – and only in some selected areas - where there are prime examples of the excellence of cheese-making and wonderful dairy products, not to be missed.

A perfect companion to a glass of quality Port, a sparkling wine from Trás-os-Montes, or a full-bodied Douro wine, or even with a quality Madeira wine.

History
Terrincho is made with sheep”s milk of "Terra Quente"-"hot land"- (southern part of Trás-os-Montes) Churra's breed, also called Terrinchas an autochthonous Trás-os-Montes breed.
Terrincho cheese is PDO - Protected Designation of Origin in accordance with the standards of the European Union.
This artisanally-produced cheeses are made in Bragança district in Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region.
