Description

Full and dense blend, brimming with southern warmth. Rich berry fruits give a ripe character, laced with acidity. The still-present tannins from a mix of indigenous and classic grapes aged in French and American barrels do promise to add long life to this wine. [Roger Voss Wine Enthusiast]

Tasting Notes
Aged for up to 12 months, spicy, savory aromas with some vanillin notes. Sweet, savoury fruit, flavors with an elegant palate. The berry fruits are solid, concentrated, balanced with ripe tannins.
Fermented without stems under controlled temperature, with frequent pisage and delestage. Aged for one year in French (80%), American (20%) oak barrels, and then blended to give balanced varietal fruit and oak complexity.
Varieties used in Cortes de Cima wine - Syrah, Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot.

History
Cortes de Cima story starts with a sailboat. In 1888 at the age of 16, Francisco Correia Sarmento set out in a sailboat from Santa Cruz da Graciosa, Azores to America. From Boston he moved to the Wild West of California, married an English immigrant, and 3 generations later, Carrie was born. Fast forward 100 years, in 1988 a sailboat brought Hans, a Dane and Carrie to Vidigueira, about 100 km inland from the rugged Atlantic west coast. The oak-clad rolling hills reminded Carrie of her native California, and the proximity of the 400 meters high Serra do Mendro convinced Hans that it was a perfect location for making wine.
The Romans had already discovered this area to be an excellent place to grow grapes and olives – way back in 65AD when Caeser commandeered Alentejo from Beja. Their trees still stand here and even produce olives!
