Maybe we can happily say that Portugal produces and serves one of the very best coffee in the world.
Meals are never quite completed without a Café, At any cafe there is always someone sitting and enjoying a cup of espresso coffee.

Coffee has a large tradition in Portugal. In average Portuguese people have more than three espressos a day at each meal including breakfast and sometimes during the day for no apparent reason or even as an excuse to go out.

Coffee is sold in many aromas, types and the origins are such different as Brazil, Africa, India or other countries in Asia. It doesn't matter as long as the best beans are selected by the Portuguese roasters with its expertise in enriching them by blending with different kinds of coffee. The result is a perfect short and aromatic drink, full of flavour, robust and creamy.

Of the 25 important species of coffee, the best known are Coffe Arabica and Coffe canephora, commonly known as Robusta.
Coffee Arabica accounts for ¾ of the world production and is the most highly appreciated type. The beans are greenish-blue and are flat on the longitudinal section. They are characterised by a smooth and aromatic flavour, with other notes such as cocoa and spices. The blends or lots considered to be of the best quality have a higher percentage of arabica, which is considered to have a better aroma and flavour.
Coffee Robusta, which can be identified by its straw-yellow beans and rounded longitudinal section, makes a less aromatic and less acidic drink than arabica. It is notable for its bitter flavour, body and abundant cream.

History
In 1727 coffe was introduced into Brazil by the hand of Francisco de Melo Palheta a Portuguese soldier to whom was given some coffee plants by the wife of the governor of French Guiana.
The first public cafés appeared in Portugal during the 18th century, becoming places of cultural and artistic inspiration, as in France.
The national revolution of April 25 made former colonies independent and Portugal changes from producer to coffee importer, with coffee becoming increasingly rare on the market. It was an important turning point for Portuguese roasters since they had to select and import the best coffee from the best countries producers.

As for Torrié it begans its operation in 1980s by José Maria Vieira himself. Torrié outlined its future investing from the start in product excellence and service quality, which enabled it to take firm steps towards success.
With a considerable position in the foodservice sector, Torrié increased its proximity to consumers in 2004.
2009 was a milestone in the history of Torrié. Quality, tradition and experience in coffee roasting were unquestionable by this time. On a path towards innovation, but preserving the knowledge acquired throughout its history, Torrié outlined a new brand strategy that is better prepared to win new customers and new markets, increasingly humanised and closer to consumers. Torrie offers solutions to meet the latest market trends, presenting alternatives for consumers and suggesting new opportunities for consumption.
As a result of solid growth, Torrié is now a young, urban, dynamic and interactive brand. More recently it has been developing initiatives related to social and environmental concerns, as well as health and well-being.
