This tempting velvety tasty liqueur is produced through a handcrafted process in Alcobaça, exclusively from the best quality fresh selected sour cherries.
The M.S.R. Ginja liqueur appeared in Alcobaça by “Manuel Sousa Ribeiro” who, with his knowledge and as a challenge to traditional homemade sour cherry liqueurs that had sprung up Alcobaça, proposed to make the best of Monastery of Alcobaça cherry liqueurs sour. He developed a unique formula of manufacturing a liqueur that remains unchanged until the present day. Creating the Ginja M.S.R. a brand registration that dates back 1930.
Among the many revelations in the history of cherry liqueur sour in Portugal, it is said that the meetings against the Salazar regime were made in the cellars of the MSR.
This Liqueur has two regions identified for its production, the PGI "Ginja of Óbidos and Alcobaça," created to protect the typicality and authenticity of this product certificate.
The sour cherries of these regions are from different varieties, both natural and local adaptation endemic origins evolving favourably in these regions due to climatic conditions and terrain, reaching higher perfection and unmatched quality.
